What to expect

  1. 1. Get to a safe place if you can

A neighbour, relative, mosque, hospital, or police station all count. If you cannot leave, lock yourself in a room with a phone.

  2. 2. Call 122 or 119

Speak in Kurdish, Arabic, or English. If you cannot speak, leave the line open — dispatchers are trained to recognise silent calls.

  3. 3. Ask for a female officer if you prefer

Family Protection Units have female officers on every shift. You may also bring a trusted person with you.

  4. 4. Request a protection order

Officers can help you file for an emergency protection order the same day. You do not need to pay a fee.

  5. 5. Stay in touch with your case worker

Every survivor is assigned a case worker who follows up confidentially and connects you to shelter, medical care, and legal aid.

Your rights

  • Your report is confidential — your name is never published.
  • You may withdraw a statement, but officers may still act if there is risk to a child or to your life.
  • You have the right to an interpreter at no cost.
  • You may refuse to be photographed or recorded by media at any time.
  • Medical examinations are free and conducted by female staff for female survivors.
